Winter Skiing & Snowboarding

Skiing and Boarding

The linked ski areas of La Foux d’Allos and Pra Loup form the biggest ski are in the southern Alpes, though most people are happy just enjoying the opportunities provided by either as a stand alone resort.  The link between the two resorts can prove difficult for some, but it is possible to ignore the slopes and use the chair lifts to access Pra Loup and return back.

UPDATE: From 2025/2026 A new lift system to be installed, making the trip from the top of La Foux to Pra Lou using just one express lift.

La Foux d’Allos 1800 lies at the head of the Upper Verdon valley and Pra Loup is in Uvernet-Fours, 7 km from the town of Barcelonnette.  During the winter months, the only way to get to Pra Loup from the Verdon valley side is on skis or snowboards.  The road that crosses the Col d’Allos is closed, generally from late October until early May, though this is dependent on weather conditions. These weather conditions will also have an impact on opening and closing dates of the resorts, usually December-April. Extensive snowmaking is available to help things along. Once temperatures have plummeted and enough snow has fallen to provide a good base, the resorts will open their lift systems and this scenic area will welcome it’s first visitors.

La Foux is the largest of the two resorts and consists of 5 Green runs, 29 Blue, 22 Red and 8 Black.  Snoparks are also available for those with a desire to scare themselves hurtling over jumps and practising slides.  The lift systems have been updated and now offer high speed, 6-person chairs as well as 4-person and 2-person chairs that are somewhat slower. The resort also has a number of drag lifts.  A covered moving pathway will gently take beginners to the top of the green slope.

Ski pass prices are very reasonable and available to purchase online or by visiting one of the sale points.

An excellent ski school will provide both group and invdividual lessons for children and adults.  Instructors also speak English as well as their native French. There are plenty of shops around to hire all your ski or boarding equipment and is possible to reserve this online.

The smaller resort of Seignus a little further down the valley at 1500 metres, offers 50 km of pistes.  Slightly less snow sure than La Foux, but also some excellent snow making and a ski school.  It’s a great little resort with a good on-slope restaurant and several more in the village.
